Summary/Abstract |
Unlike during the Cold War, now we can no longer talk about security in Asia as an independent topic. Japan has been developing new cooperative ties with the North Atlantic Treaty Organization and has agreed to work together with NATO forces in Afghanistan. This is a landmark development. But the Japanese government decided against dispatching the Self-Defense Forces there. Limits on the use of the SDF overseas reflect the gap between Japanese and international thinking about security issues
