Italy in the grip of crisis: change or continuity? / Arbatova, N   Journal Article
Arbatova, N Journal Article
0 Rating(s) & 0 Review(s)
Publication 2013.
Summary/Abstract ITALY, DESPITE THE CRISIS, is still the eighth largest economy in the world and the third largest economy in the Eurozone. Unlike the other countries in Southern Europe, Italy's economy is diversified enough and is independent of any particular sector. In Italy, not only the automobile and machine-building industries are very well developed in the north of the country, but also small businesses, the textile and light industries and other branches in all of its regions. In contrast to the industrial North, the agricultural South of Italy is less developed, has a high level of unemployment and depends mainly on government subsidies. There is in Italy a considerable shadow sector in agriculture, construction and the services market - up to 17% of GDP.
