Summary/Abstract The London Declaration of 26 April 1949, made by Commonwealth Prime Ministers, was an act of statesmanship of rare insight and imagination, as was its approval by King George VI. It paved the way for the emergence of a voluntary forward- and outward-looking association of sovereign, independent governments and peoples, alive to their common values and traditions, and conscious of the contribution they can together bring to making the world a better place. The Commonwealth is an international asset as well as a boon to its members.

Summary/Abstract India should learn to make a balance between its domestic compulsions and its foreign policy and should not led domestic constraints override its foreign policy priorities. For Example, India's decision to boycott the CHOGM summit held in Sri Lanka recently. India should try to avoid this kind of situations and if occurs it should learn to handle them artfully. Another major issue which it should care of is the border issue.

Summary/Abstract The 2007 Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in Uganda faces several critical issues - among them, the situations in Pakistan and Bangladesh. In Kampala they will elect the fifth Commonwealth Secretary-General and decide on whether the association's membership should be widened. The author, a long-time member of The Round Table Moot, has covered 19 CHOGMs as a journalist. He looks at the prospects for Kampala and gives some personal views on the future development of the Commonwealth
