Entrepreneurs, expectations and business expansion: lessons from Lithuania / Aidis, Ruta; Mickiewicz, Tomasz   Journal Article
Aidis, Ruta Journal Article
0 Rating(s) & 0 Review(s)
Publication 2006.
Summary/Abstract This article applies a multinomial logit estimator to investigate which factors affect SME owners' expectations to grow their businesses in Lithuania. Our findings provide evidence that SME owners' human capital (education) matters and that growth expectations are positively related to exporting. In addition, we analyse the link between the perceptions of business constraints and growth expectations and find that the factors, which are perceived as main business barriers, are not necessarily those which are associated with reduced growth expectations. However, perceptions of corruption seem to affect growth expectations the most.

Oil and gas: a blessing for the few hydrocarbons and inequality within regions in Russia / Buccellato, Tullio; Mickiewicz, Tomasz   Journal Article
Mickiewicz, Tomasz Journal Article
0 Rating(s) & 0 Review(s)
Publication 2009.
Summary/Abstract Building on earlier work on regional inequality in Russia the article seeks to demonstrate that the regional oil and gas abundance is associated with high within-region inequality. It provides empirical evidence that hydrocarbons represent one of the leading determinants of an increased gap between rich and poor in the producing regions. The discussion focuses on a possible cluster of geographic, economic and political factors underlying the phenomenon.
