Social democratic parties in Western democracies have developed new strategies and policies to adapt to changing domestic and international conditions. The principal party of the center-left in Turkey, the Republican People's Party, has performed poorly as the main opposition party due to its failure to devise new policies that address critical social and economic issues in Turkey.
