Casting "the kingdom into another mold ": Ghana's troubled transition to independence / Rathbone, Richard   Journal Article
Rathbone, Richard Journal Article
0 Rating(s) & 0 Review(s)
Publication 2008.
Summary/Abstract The pomp and partying of Ghana's Independence Day in March 1957 obscured some messy politics. The triumphalist story, widely accepted outside Ghana, of a heroic Nkrumah and the Convention Peoples' Party eclipsed alternative stories from the North, the rural areas and those who opposed Nkrumah. This article also considers the ironies and iconography of Ghana's 50th anniversary celebrations.
