Summary/Abstract |
Defence cooperation and military engagement between India and China are aspects of the complex mix of conflict and cooperation approach to bilateral relations between the two Asian giants. It is based on the presumption that there is a security dilemma between the two countries. However, it recognises the framework and postulates of what is called cooperative security. Through the liberal institutionalist's perspective, it argues that India-China defence cooperation and military engagement are not only possible but also desirable. For these two biggest developing nations of the world, peace and friendship between them are not only in their mutual interests, but also important for bringing peace, stability and prosperity to South Asia.

Summary/Abstract |
While the 2014 sixteenth general elections to the Lok Sabha will be remembered as a watershed moment in India’s contemporary history for very many reasons, it is interesting to note how China tried to reach out to BJP’s Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi in the run up to the elections and after the election results were declared.

Summary/Abstract |
Much before India achieved Independence in 1947, though not widely known, there was an attempt under the leadership of Jatin Mukherjee, M.N. Roy et al in 1915 during the First World War to attain Independence through armed insurrection in cooperation with the Germany. Although the initiative did not fructify, the efforts deserve to be recalled and given due importance in the pages of history. In fact, the incident can be considered as precursor of the later attempt by Subhash Chandra Bose in 1945 under the aegis of the Indian National Army (INA) during the Second World War with the help of Japan.

Summary/Abstract |
In the narrative of the dynamic and yet complex Sino-Indian relations, bilateral economic relations between the two countries occupy a very critical space. With a combined population of 2.5 billion, China and India are the two most populous countries in the world constituting about 38% of world population. Together they account for one- tenth of gross domestic product of the world.

Summary/Abstract |
In the emerging strategic scenario in the world and Asia in paricular, the Indo-US nuclear deal and India' strategic partnership with the USA had its resonance on Sino-Japanese relations as well, particularly on China. What had added grist to the quadrilateral relations among the USA, Japan, China and India is the signing of the India-Japan Security declaration during the visit of Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singhto Japan in October 2008.

Summary/Abstract |
The lexicon of world politics has undergone a transformation after the end of cold war with the disintegration of the erstwhile Soviet Union 1991. The binary approach that ‘either you are with us or against us’ has lost much of its traction in recent times. Now there is an increasing trend towards what is called multiple engagement and it is in this framework that Sri Lanka is balancing its external engagement with two of its powerful neighbours- China and India.

Summary/Abstract |
The expansive South China Sea covering an area of more than 3.5 million square kilometres consists of atolls, reefs, and small islands, only one of which has fresh water to support human habitation, has drawn considerable strategic and media attention in recent times. The Spratlys and the Paracels in particular are two of such islands, which China calls Nansha and Xisha islands, have shot into lime light in recent years and has all the potential to trigger a conflict, which can destabilise the region primarily for the geo-strategic reasons. China occupied the Paracels in 1974 from South Vietnam.
