Summary/Abstract |
Twenty years after the fall of the Iron Curtain, it is time to take stock. Have expectations been fulfilled? Not entirely. There are three areas where Europe has clearly lagged: bridging the continent's divisions; establishing a veritable common foreign policy; and fostering a sense of legitimacy for the project of European integration.

Summary/Abstract |
In order to better understand what happened in Mali in 2012 and to seek appropriate solutions to the major obstacles facing this country, it is necessary to recall the nature and causes of the numerous challenges confronting the nation. these vital concerns relate to ethnicity, secession, terrorism, coups, governance, poverty, corruption, drought and climate change. These factors affect not only Mali but also represent obstacles faced by a multitude of other countries on the continent. However, in the case of Mali, these issues were all brought together in the same place and brutally erupted at the same time during the course of the year 2012, provoking disintegration and the subsequent French military intervention.

Summary/Abstract |
China’s economic success derives from the co-evolution of the political and economic systems. There is no single ‘China model’. Rather, three successive generations of China model can be identified, corresponding to ‘growth equilibria’ that emerged when policy responded effectively to specific economic challenges. The structure of interaction between economic and political is determined by the basic governance strategy of the Chinese Communist Party.

Summary/Abstract |
Looking ahead, the outlook in 2014 is expected to see sizeable downside risks, coming from both domestic and external sides. It is estimated that the economic growth in 2014 would remain under 6.0 percent as the country's economy is much more impacted by tighter economic condition, lower commodity prices, as well as uncertainty in financial market and regulatory regime in the run-up to the 2014 election, offsetting the positive effects of global economic recovery and rising spending related national election. Inflation rate, meanwhile, is projected to ease and return to the Bank Indonesia's target band of 4.5:] percent in 2014, as the effect of the effect of the fuel price increases may have subsided and the aggregate demand growth slows.
I however, the recent depreciation in rupiah, the minimum wage hikes for next year, and the second and third-round effects from the increase in fuel prices and electricity billing rates may give further in?ationary pressures to the outlook. As for external side, a modest narrowing in current account deficits is expected to be help by slowing imports, as investment growth continues moderate in 2014.

Summary/Abstract |
Growing concerns about the slow revival of the world economy, volatility in oil prices, overcapacity in shipping and fierce competition is denting profits in the shipping industry. On the other hand, emergence of greenhouse gas emissions and pollution control regimes at sea is forcing ship owners to make expensive technical modifications onboard ships, which are further driving up the costs of operations. In such a rapidly changing scenario, there is a need for a long-term vision for transitioning to an era of sustainability in the international shipping industry. The paper commences with a discussion on the concept of sustainability as applicable to the shipping industry and highlights the recent developments in the maritime domain, which pose significant environmental and economic challenges for the shipping industry. It identifies the emerging trends in the shipping industry and argues that these challenges also present a window of opportunity for the industry, for undertaking a paradigm shift towards sustainable shipping. It further explores the transition pathways and presents various options that can be implemented in the shipping industry, which will aid its transition towards sustainability. Using a case study, the paper highlights the key characteristics of sustainable shipping and briefly discusses the Indian maritime scene before concluding that the adaptability of the world shipping industry to adopt the practices of sustainability is fundamental to its survivability in forthcoming decades.

Summary/Abstract |
This article explores how both the sovereign debt crisis and the European Union's response illustrate fundamental characteristics of contemporary European integration. In the face of an unexpected emergency, national politicians took the lead and pressed ahead with more integration. The long-term results though depend on national acceptance of not just the bailout provisions but also enforcement of debt brakes mandated by the new EU treaty. This means democratic politics at the national level will continue to have a fundamental influence on EU affairs, while the North/South split will co-exist alongside a more marked separation between countries inside and outside the Eurozone. In this context of increased political turbulence within the EU, there is likely to be only a limited window of opportunity for successful negotiation of a free-trade deal with the United States.

Summary/Abstract |
Bureaucracy is the direct customer of the majority of projects for promoting a certain image of Russia in the world. The challenge is whether it will be able to conceptually separate its own image from the image of the nation, and then promote the latter.
In 2012, the magazine Russian Reporter featured an article about Russia called "Ten Reasons for Pride: Events in 2012 that Made Us Respect Ourselves and Our Country." The list included an unprecedented surge in the volunteer movement; the long-awaited launch of the Bureya hydropower plant; statistics indicating that the number of births in Russia exceeded deaths for the first time since 1991; the launch of the space observatory RadioAstron; the Yandex IPO on NASDAQ; Russia's emergence as number one in Europe in the number of Internet users; and the country's second place in the overall team ranking at the London Paralympics.

Summary/Abstract |
Modern warfare has reached a strategic infection point in the wake of different geo-political challenge, global terrorism menace, different economic challenges, violence emanating from religious radicalisation and internal security challenges. Warfare is no longer the sum total of capabilities, of putting more personnel, capital and technology on the battlefield, but of better situational awareness, contextual knowledge, discerning disposition and homogenised action.

Summary/Abstract |
On December 2013, the Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) formally announced that it would wind down the size of its large-scale asset purchase program. This formally set in motion the exit of quantitative easing (QE). However, at present, the American unemployment rate is still relatively high, the real estate market is gloomy, in?ation is too low, the balance sheet is facing an unexpected increase in risks, and policies are confronted with cost pressures. Under such circumstances, the Fed is faced with multiple challenges in the tapering of QE. QB policy has made great contributions to helping the United States to shake off ?nancial crisis, and the safe and smooth exit of the policy is of the utmost importance to the recovery of the U.S. economy and the reshaping of U.S. advantages. In addition, the Fed 's monetary policy reversal will engender spillover risks and challenges for China 's economy.
