Summary/Abstract There appears to be an everincreasing demand to make armour systems more light-weight and less bulky. Armoured fighting vehicles are expected to be lighter and smaller, due to the ever demanding requirement for better stratetic mobility. Modern armour ceramics are very strong materials in fact, they can be significantly stronger that the strongest steels available. This is a useful property in armour where the projectile or shaped charge jet applied a compressive load to the material.
