In order to achieve the objective the future infantryman (IdZ) system was developed for the German Bundeswehr and its realisation planned in two steps. In a first step, modern equipment based on readily accessible technologies was made available to the troops as a basic system which increased thier performance rapidly and significantly. In a second step, the the enhanced system following the 2010, will bring about another boost in performance.
