Summary/Abstract Post 2001, India has come forward swiftly contributing to the tune of 2 billion USD plus the recent additional aid of $1 billion declared during the seventh Heart of Asia Conference in Dec 2016, towards capacity building and reconstruction of Afghanistan’s infrastructure. Transiting goods through the route via Wagah-Peshawar-Torkham would greatly reduce the freight rates of goods from India to Afghanistan.

Summary/Abstract Afghanistan and India signed a 'Memorandum of Understanding' (MoU) on implementing 60 projects under the $300 million Small Development Projects (SDP) scheme that is expected to ensure development to some of the remote areas of the country. As per the framework of the MOU, at least $2 million worth of projects was to be undertaken in each of Afghanistan's 34 provinces.
