Summary/Abstract Brunei Daraussalam is no exception to the current global financial crisis. The repercussions of this crisis beg the need for prudent government spending and investment. In this vein, the Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF) as the nations first line of defence will continue, through smart acquisition, to modernise and develop its forces and capabilities in order to respond to and sustain in the ever-changing environment, as well as to overcome the various security challenges.

Summary/Abstract The possession of weapons of mass destruction and ballistic missiles by potential adversaries is an urgent security issue for the United States and our allies. Effective missile defences can contribute to US non-proliferation objective by devaluing ballistic missiles in the eyers of our adversaries munitions and WMD. Equally important, missile defence can help the country prepare for situations where diplomacy and non-proliferation aggression and, after ballistic missiles are launched, by limiting damage locally or regionally.

Summary/Abstract The politico-military events of the turn of the century mean that today we are witnessing a change in the philosophy on war, the shape of Armed Force, and in effect challenges of attaining new capabilities. The immense changes in societies and modern technologies have caused the spectrum of future possible scenarios and of how to use Armed Forces to continously broaden and to enter into new domains of life which have so far not been obvious. New military equipment is the predominant, yet not the exclusive domain. This reflects the modernity of the military. The introduction of new materiel generates many challenges, which need to be overcome in the transformation process.
