Summary/Abstract |
There is no doubt that Japan is forging strongest defence links with India after the U.S. and these relations between the two constitute a major pillar of Strategic partnership. The opportunities are obviously the most in the maritime sphere. With gradual shift of focus from Atlantic to the Pacific and to the Indian Ocean, Japan will have to pay more attention to this part of the world.

Summary/Abstract |
Since there is growing congruence in many areas of common interest, India's Look East policy too now has acquired a strategic dimension, driven by our own economic, strategic and defence concerns and domestic imperatives. India and Japan are acutely aware of the fact that the global centre of gravity is slowly but surely shifting to the Asia-Pacific and that this century could belong to Asia.

Summary/Abstract |
It is premature to predict how Japan-US relations will be shaped under Obama. The real test, as said before, will be Obama's Iraq policy and Japan's role in the US strategy. When the senior Bush was in the White House, the end of the cold war in the early 1990's gave him a "peace dividend" - a drop in military spending that opened the door to fund more constructive federal programs. Obama would probably hope for the same advantage should he manage to wind up the war in Iraq as promised during the election. The savings are potentially substantial.

Summary/Abstract |
India's understanding of Japan and the Japanese people, and Japan's understanding of India and Indian people are very superficial, and people in both country possess unrealistic, preconceived notions and outdated information on each other. Both India and Japan should shed their unrealistic, archaic and preconceived notions coming out of mutual ignorance.

Summary/Abstract |
The proposal of FTAAP by the United States and its announcement of its intention to participate in TPP can be interpreted as an expression of its desire to restore APEC to its role as a central regional economic institution. If these schemes materialized, this development would also represent a victory on the part of the United States, with the introduction of discriminatory and legally binding mechanism as APEC's norms, given that it was the United States that intensified efforts to create this norm for regional integration within the APEC process over the decades.

Summary/Abstract |
In the emerging strategic scenario in the world and Asia in paricular, the Indo-US nuclear deal and India' strategic partnership with the USA had its resonance on Sino-Japanese relations as well, particularly on China. What had added grist to the quadrilateral relations among the USA, Japan, China and India is the signing of the India-Japan Security declaration during the visit of Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singhto Japan in October 2008.
