Summary/Abstract |
This article offers an analysis of the key trends in Japan's export of direct investments to other countries in the years from 1996 to 2007. This period was special in many ways because of the economic situation in Japan itself and in the world at large. In the first place, these constitute active expansion into the manufacturing industries of developing countries, mostly Asian countries; growth of investments in the oil and gas sector in order to secure unrestricted access to energy sources; and resumption of the growth in cross-border mergers and acquisitions (M&A). Japanese companies' investment operations in other countries running parallel with the growth in sales by foreign branches and rise in the participation in the production abroad have reinforced their competitive positions on the global scale.

Summary/Abstract |
The world financial crisis has struck Japan's economy more heavily than the economies of other countries. In order to emerge from the crisis the Japanese government put an emphasis on the Keynesian methods of regulation, which consist in pumping state financial means into the economy with a view to expanding domestic demand and eliminating disbalance between demand and supply.

Summary/Abstract |
The global recession has had its effect on Vietnam because it came at a time when the country was going through an internal cyclic crisis and reeling from the consequences of errors the country's government had made in its economic policy. The program developed to find a way out of the crisis stimulates consumer and investment demand, and contains monetary and budgetary financial measures. The demand stimulation plan is based on the effective demand theory and calculation of the maximum multiplier effect. These measures help ease stagnation, but may increase systemic risks in the local economy. On the upside, Vietnam's efforts to ride out the crisis reveal a great potential of the egalitarian form of capitalism in countries still in transition.

Summary/Abstract |
The Trans-Baikal Territory, by virtue of its geopolitical position, is an active participant in migration processes, being simultaneously a receiving center and a region of migrants' transit. Among the main reasons for immigration to the Trans-Baikal Territory are its economic, business and humanitarian opportunities, the latter including tourism and education. Labor migration in the Trans-Baikal Territory is the most dynamic migration flow. Foreign labor force, especially skilled one, is an objective necessity for the region. Immigration processes have both positive and negative aspects. There is also the problem of illegal foreign migration.

Summary/Abstract |
The transition of power to a new administration in the United States demands that Washington more clearly articulate its strategy in a changing international situation. One of the key theatres of U.S. global strategy, it would seem, is the Asia-Pacific Region. Recent works by American political scientists allow us to speculate that the White House will follow a more balanced policy in its relations with such East Asian economic powers as China, Japan, South Korea, and the ASEAN countries.
