Greek politics: economic crisis or crisis of democracy? / Vasilopoulou, Sofia; Halikiopoulou, Daphne   Article
Vasilopoulou, Sofia Article
0 Rating(s) & 0 Review(s)
Summary/Abstract Greece’s economic instability has become the Western world’s longest-running monetary crisis. Will Germany allow the EU to keep propping up Greece’s unstable financial system? Will the country leave the eurozone? Will such a departure, if it occurs, unravel the idea of “Europe”? All valid questions. But behind them stands another equally profound social and political crisis that has made Greece the weak man of Europe.

United States intervention in post-war Greek elections: from civil war to dictatorship / Kassimeris, Christos   Journal Article
Kassimeris, Christos Journal Article
0 Rating(s) & 0 Review(s)
Publication 2009.
Summary/Abstract This article challenges the legitimacy of electoral results in post-war Greece, as well as the political orientation of the Greek people and proves that the issue of United States intervention in Greek politics is not fabricated. Although particular emphasis is given to electoral systems and results, this study also investigates the so-called conspiracy theories that relate such information and events to the installation of dictatorship that marked Greece's long lasting instability. Despite the fact that the years of dictatorial rule are not central to this examination, the causes of the dictatorship are related to both foreign intervention and the Greek "political culture."
