Future of space: trouble on the final frontier / Faith, G Ryan   Journal Article
Faith, G Ryan Journal Article
0 Rating(s) & 0 Review(s)
Publication 2012.
Summary/Abstract Nearly one hundred countries, including the world's spacefaring nations, have formally agreed upon the principles set out in the 1967 "Treaty on Principles Governing the Activities of States in the Exploration and Use of Outer Space, Including the Moon and Other Celestial Bodies," more commonly known as the UN Outer Space Treaty. This document represents our global consensus on the fate and disposition of the rest of our solar system, of our galaxy's one hundred billion other stars (and their solar systems), and of the one hundred billion additional galaxies in the universe; it was all decided before the first moon landing.

Planning the unplannable: scenarios on the future of space / Huntley, Wade L; Bock, Joseph G; Weingartner, Miranda   Journal Article
Huntley, Wade L Journal Article
0 Rating(s) & 0 Review(s)
Publication 2010.
Summary/Abstract This article explores the use of scenario analysis as a methodology to rigorously analyze potential space futures, particularly with respect to space security challenges, in the context of rapid and uncertain change across several dimensions of human space activities. The successful use of scenario analysis in other (e.g. corporate and military) sectors is described and results of an initial scenario analysis workshop are presented. Scenario analysis is recommended as a promising approach to evaluating the long-term consequences of various policy choices in the context of uncertainty, and as a process well-suited to fostering communication and building consensual knowledge among diverse stakeholders.
