Summary/Abstract The Conference on Interactions and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA) is an international forum for enhancing cooperation in order to ensure peace, security and stability in Asia. Over the past 20 years and more since its establishment, it has played a unique role in promoting peace and cooperation in Asia, enhancing mutual understanding and trust among member states, safeguarding regional security and stability and promoting regional exchanges and cooperation. Security has always been the focus of concern at the successive sessions of CICA. At present, Asia, home to CICA member states and observer states, is facing a series of severe security challenges. As an important multilateral mechanism in Asia, CICA may play a greater role in enhancing political mutual trust among member states, pursuing peaceful solution of disputes, promoting exchanges among civilizations and pushing forward common prosperity and development. To this end, the member states need to cultivate and implement mutual trust and mutual benefit, coordinate on an equal footing, respect diversified civilizations and seek new concepts of security, cooperation, development and civilization for the sake of common development.
