Summary/Abstract The upcoming 2014 withdrawal of U.S. troops from Afghanistan poses challenges not just for Afghanistan but also for neighboring local war theaters, particularly the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) of Pakistan. The conflict inside FATA is surrounded by a two-part puzzle comprising a global narrative inflected by America and a sidelined local narrative prevalent inside FATA. This study reconstructs the local narrative of FATA's militancy and seeks to explain related U.S. foreign policy and the dilemmas it instills in the Pakistani state.
