The drawing of foreign labor force contributes to the development of the local economy. Meanwhile, the presence of Chinese migrants in the region is insignificant so far, does not pose a threat to employment of the local people, and is not the cause of social problems.

Summary/Abstract |
This article examines the prospects for creating a security structure in East Asia. In the authors' opinion, the need for such an organization is now overwhelming in the region, one of the few in the world that is still without a permanently functioning forum on security issues. The work analyzes different ideas and proposals aimed at creating such a forum: taking advantage of Europe's experience, particularly that of the OSCE, or relying on the local institutions that are maturing within the region. The authors conclude that under certain conditions, the mechanism of the six-party negotiations to settle the nuclear problem on the Korean Peninsula could become the foundation for a security structure in East Asia.

Summary/Abstract |
During the entire period of existence of the puppet state Manchoukuo Japan undertook programs of populating Manchuria with Japanese and Korean agricultural colonists. Japanese settlements had a military-strategic importance. They were created at the border with the U.S.S.R. and should have become a bulwark of Japanese military-political influence. Korean colonists did not enjoy the colonialists' trust. Their settlements played the role of an economic base of the Japanese aggression.

Summary/Abstract |
This article examines the formula "The Pacific Ocean is the Mediterranean Sea of the future," which was quite widely known in Russia in the early 20th century as a call for a stronger presence in the Pacific Ocean. We trace the 19th century formation of this idea, associated with the names of Aleksander Hertzen, Lev Mechnikov, and the classical works of global geopolitics. The author concludes that representatives of Russian social and political thought were among the first ideologues of Asia-Pacific cooperation.

Summary/Abstract |
North Korea is today in the limelight of rivalry between the United States and China. The essence of the geopolitical game lies in the desire to liquidate the North Korean state, which would mean not only a revision of the results of World War II, but also the major success of the United States in preventing Chinese domination in Asia. Russia should decide which direction of the development of the Korean situation meets its national interests-unification of Korea on South Korean terms, a radical change of the military-political balance in the Far East, or the status quo, which means the preservation of North Korean statehood. The key to the Russian strategy on the Korean problem is, and will remain, the preservation of good relations with the Democratic People's Republic of Korea. Adhering to this position Russia is interested in stopping the development of missile-nuclear programs.

Summary/Abstract |
he launch and development of the Internet in China has the same origins and the same "generic characteristics" as the birth and advance of civil society in that country. Unlike the West European or North American models, the state here is practically alone in full control of this initiative. To the exclusion of anyone else, government authorities have a dominant role in institutionalizing and legitimizing both the foundations of civil society and the Internet environment.

Summary/Abstract |
The author shows that the main factor which influenced the Soviet-Chinese relations in 1937-1941 was the war unleashed by Japan against China. Having adopted a decision to render China a broad military-technical, diplomatic, moral and political assistance, the Soviet leadership took into account the fact that the growing Japanese aggression in China led to a further change in the balance of forces in the region, creating a real threat to the security of the Soviet Union.
