Summary/Abstract |
An integrated South Asia shall always be in the larger interest of India. It shall turn out to be an economic giant and attractive for the external powers of the regional as well as the world. However, delineating a more integrated South Asia is no mean task. In the South Asian context, the centrifuge operated by India-Pakistan relations draws the region apart. India at this juncture need to rethink about implanting the ‘Idea of India’ in the heart and mind of leadership as well as people of the region. Undoubtedly, challenges are there before Mr. Modi to reinforce the ‘Idea of India’ by aligning the goals of ensuring that we are the largest democracy of the world and also a global power to be recon with. Such an endeavour will not be successful if Indian leadership fails to be magnanimous in their thought and actions.

Summary/Abstract |
This article examines the role of drought and climate change as triggers of the Syrian uprising that started in March 2011. It frames the 2006-10 drought that struck north-eastern Syria in the context of rapid economic liberalization and long-standing resource mismanagement, and shows that the humanitarian crisis of the late 2000s largely predated the drought period. It argues that focusing on external factors like drought and climate change in the context of the Syrian uprising is counterproductive as it diverts attention from more fundamental political and economic motives behind the protests and shifts responsibility away from the Syrian government.

Summary/Abstract |
The combined force of the 2012 coup in Bamako and the rebellion in the north entailed an unmasking of Mali. What had been presented as a showcase of democracy, good governance, and peace and reconciliation proved to be a facade for institutional weakness and mismanagement. The collusion between regional and national 'big man' interests that the crisis revealed showed little if any respect for human security and development. This article will analyse the causes of the crisis and the strategies of key actors, including the Islamist rebels. The consequences of and responses to the conflict will also be addressed before the article ends with some tentative conclusions concerning the future stability of Mali and the Sahel region. The article is based on the authors' long engagement with Mali, spanning more than a decade, but the most recent material presented is based on a series of in-depth interviews conducted there in February and March 2013.

Summary/Abstract |
One April day in 2013, six artists got together and envisioned Karachi as they would like to see it, in place of the crumbling, violent megacity at their doorstep. Months later, in November, the team brought to their city a three-day explosion of street art, theatre, discussions, documentary screenings, exhibitions and live music under the the Pursukoon Karachi Festival. For a lasting effect, the festival launched its ultimate undertaking - renovating the Karachi Cantonment Railway Station.
