The South China Sea is a region which is set to cross the boundaries of regional importance and become a focus of global powers. Being a source of hydrocarbons, fisheries and other resources as well as an important trade route, the South China Sea carries strategic, economic and commercial value. It has been contested among the surrounding countries for its territorial and maritime boundaries.
