Summary/Abstract |
Most travellers from India’s international airports would be used to the sight of a bright red space-age looking vehicle with flashing lights waiting near the runway as aircraft take-off and land. These specialist vehicles belong to the Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting (ARFF) teams at these airports, whose highly trained teams and their state-of-the-art Aircraft Crash Fire Tenders (ACFT), are the first to reach any accident site involving an aircraft, within the airport premises

Summary/Abstract |
The EADS Innovation Works site at Bangalore exists to prepare the future and explore the synergies for the group and is working on several important projects at present. Interacting with select media in Bangalore on his first visit to India after taking charge as Head of EADS Innovation Works in June this year, Sébastien Remy outlined his plans for the Bangalore centre, "We are focussing on the long term activities like the emerging technologies and solutions". He adds that the Bangalore centre is "working with Cassidian India to optimise performance of radars something that could be fully applicable to existing products. This on-going research work has resulted in the filing of a patent."

Summary/Abstract |
The ShinMaywa deal could be a harbinger of what may prove to be an extremely fruitful relationship in the aerospace domain between India and Japan. India’s geography makes it ideal for sea plane operations, and especially for humanitarian relief operations, one can only imagine the impact of the US-2i in flood and cyclone relief operations.

Summary/Abstract |
In fact, a number of major decisions were announced after Aero India, following the Defence Acquisition Council (DAC) meeting that took place in the last week of February. Decisions taken by the DAC to allow procurement of additional Swiss Pilatus PC-7 MkII basic trainer aircraft (BTA) and acquisition of an additional Lockheed Martin C-130 J ‘Super Hercules’ to make up for attrition, would have been welcome announcements during Aero India.

Summary/Abstract |
According to Airbus Military over the next three decades, 'the increasing air transport demands will generate the need for some 2,400 multi-role airlifters, with approximately 1,250 of these in the light/medium category'.
India's requirements alone could account for approximately 10 per cent of that market over the next 10 years. The Indian Air Force (IAF) plans to increase its tonnage carrying capacity from 500 tonnes to 1,500 tonnes by 2022. The IAF is fully committed to supporting the Indian Army in the air maintenance task, its Fixed Wing assets carrying in excess of 25,000 tonnes annually. This capacity will be enhanced with the arrival of upgraded and new aircraft with higher payloads and enhanced avionics for higher sortie generation rates

Summary/Abstract |
Already one of the world’s largest defence markets, India aspires to grow into the third largest aviation market globally, in the next six years (by 2020). The immense potential offered as a result of this, and indeed the urgency, leads one to wonder as to how did we end up with two major shows this year (DefExpo and India Aviation), that were dead in the water from day one?

Summary/Abstract |
India's growing civil aviation sector now has an increasing number of scheduled, non-scheduled airlines, flying institutes and private-use aircraft that will require a larger number of airports and airfields to enable air connectivity across all corners of the country.
The Airports Authority of India (AAI) had already begun work on 50 low-cost airports, located in remote and interior areas of the country. In addition to this greenfield airports at Navi Mumbai, Goa, Kannur and Kushinagar, AAI has identified six airports for private management under the Public Private Partnership (PPP) route following the successful implementation of PPP models in Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Cochin.
All these measure will not only lead to more airports but also increased utilisation of existing airports, thus helping to increase air traffic but at the same time putting additional pressure on airspace management. In another recent move, the government allowed flexi use of airspace by civil and military users on a sharing basis, which will enable the available airspace to be used in a more optimised and effective manner.

Summary/Abstract |
There remains a very strong potential market for the introduction of additional Regional Transport Aircraft (RTA) in India, over the next few years, both for replacement of former fleets and for expansion of regional networks across the country. Some of these aircraft will also be introduced with the support of leasing firms and in the coming years, India is likely to become an attractive market for leasing companies with ATRs in their portfolios.
