Beijing between Pyongyang and Seoul / Asmolov, Konstantin   Journal Article
ASMOLOV, Konstantin Journal Article
0 Rating(s) & 0 Review(s)
Summary/Abstract The question of how strictly Beijing is adhering to its policy toward the Korean Peninsula remains relevant today. In the author's view. China's policy with regard to Korea has changed little, on the whole. Looking out for their own national interests, neither China nor Russia is offering any real support to either North or South Korea. This does not eliminate the potential for increased tension in relations between China and North Korea, where Beijing will attempt to tighten the leash while Pyongyang ensures that it has sufficient room to maneuver.

Nationalism and the net: Online discussion of Goguryeo history in China and South Korea / Chase, Thomas   Journal Article
Chase, Thomas Journal Article
0 Rating(s) & 0 Review(s)
Publication 2011.
Summary/Abstract This study investigates the growing volume of online discussion of Goguryeo history in both China and South Korea. While first analysing how nationalism and national identity underpin this historical dispute, this article then critiques common arguments that emerge within online Chinese and South Korean commentary on Goguryeo. The findings of this study show that while the Internet has facilitated a broadening of participation in the discussion of Goguryeo, this has not led to a more objective or rigorous treatment of this history, nor a more critical evaluation of its relationship to national identity. This study's findings also indicate that national identity is neither static nor monolithic, and that online discussion of Goguryeo history is part of a dynamic process contributing to the gradual change and evolution of national identity in both countries.

Relations in the Sino-Korean triangle / Asmolov, Konstantin   Journal Article
Asmolov, Konstantin Journal Article
0 Rating(s) & 0 Review(s)
Summary/Abstract This article discusses the PRC policy in relation to the DPRK and the RK in 2018. Analyzing the Sino-North Korean relations, demonstrating a high level of contacts in both political and economic spheres, the author concludes that in case of further intensification of the confrontation between Beijing and Washington, China will reduce interaction with the RK and US.A. on the issues of denuclearization and weaken the sanctions pressure on the DPRK which, in turn, due to the conditional "rapprochement" with the United States will seek to ensure its freedom of maneuver. As for the relations between the PRC and the RK, according to the author, there is no serious progress in resolving the current problems yet.

Road map to a Korean Peninsula peace regime: a Chinese perspective / Jiyong, Zheng; Yin, Gao   Article
Jiyong, Zheng Article
0 Rating(s) & 0 Review(s)
Summary/Abstract Sustainable peace and stability need an institutional guarantee. Based on the unique logic of its Korean peninsula policy, China has sketched a Chinese-style Korean Peninsula Peace Regime that comprises logic positioning, strategic objectives and priorities, a mechanism, a timetable, and a road map. The basic logic of the peace regime, the aim of which is long-term peace and stability on the Korean peninsula, is that it should include security but also integrate security with economy and culture.
