Summary/Abstract "I AM ASKING YOU to send me back home... My presence is not necessary to do what needs to be done here, they'll manage perfectly well without me, and I'm not needed here. In the present circumstances, I don't see any need or justification for being here as an individual or as the Deputy Chief of Staff of the Red Army, in which capacity I arrived and am known here."1 This telegram was sent by Lieutenant General Filipp Golikov to Commander-in-Chief Joseph Stalin, People's Commissar of Foreign Affairs V. Molotov, and Chief of Staff of the Red Army Marshal B. Shaposhnikov on August 25, 1941.
