Averell harriman: oligarch in the diplomatic service (part 2) / Kravchenko, I   Journal Article
Kravchenko, I Journal Article
0 Rating(s) & 0 Review(s)
Summary/Abstract INAUGUST 1942, British Prime Minister Winston Churchill and US special envoy Averell Harriman left the Soviet Union, basking in what seemed to them a great political victory. Stalin had agreed, albeit grudgingly, to their decision to postpone the opening of the second front until 1943. In other words, he had accepted their obvious political perfidy that would prolong the war and cost many millions of Soviet lives. The Soviet leader, however, had not broken off allied relations, a step that [London and Washington] feared more than anything else. He was obviously determined to fight until the enemy was routed. The Soviet Union had no other option: To survive, it had to continue fighting with all available resources.

Averell Harriman: Oligarch in the diplomatic service / Kravchenko, I   Journal Article
Kravchenko, I Journal Article
0 Rating(s) & 0 Review(s)
Summary/Abstract EVERYBODY at some point gets a chance to prove their mettle. This is not a stroke of luck, but a tough challenge and difficult choice for everyone at their own level: in wisdom or simplicity, strength or weakness, health or infirmity, wealth or poverty - to choose to follow the straight and familiar path or to scale new heights. Only those who rise to the challenge leave their mark in history. William Averell Harriman was one such person: He sought out challenges and accepted them with boldness and determination. He never retreated from or skirted them.

Coalition factor: how adversaries became allies and won the war / Borisov, A   Journal Article
Borisov, A Journal Article
0 Rating(s) & 0 Review(s)
Summary/Abstract HISTORY knows any number of fantastic metamorphoses, when adversaries or even enemies became partners and even allies (or vice versa), of which the anti-Hitler coalition of the Soviet Union, United States and Great Britain during the Great Patriotic War (1941-1945) and their collective contribution to the victory over fascism are the greatest examples. Having approached the critical point in history, the leaders of the coalition members - Stalin, Roosevelt and Churchill - demonstrated a lot of wisdom. They pushed aside the enmity and mistrust of the prewar years to close ranks in the face of the threat from the bloc of aggressor states.

Kravchenko, M Journal Article
0 Rating(s) & 0 Review(s)
Summary/Abstract JUNE 30, 2021, marks 80 years to the day since Harry Hopkins, US President Franklin Roosevelt's personal representative, made his first visit to the Soviet Union. This is an excellent opportunity to recall some of the most significant moments in the political biography of this amazing person. Hopkins is one of those rare individuals to whom fate has given an opportunity to make history with his own hands. A larger-than-life personality - bright, talented, driven, strong-willed, and resolute - he was always in the public eye, although he remained modestly in the shadow of his great patron...
