Summary/Abstract |
This work analyzes the situation surrounding the creation of a regional structure like the East Asian Community (EAC). From the moment the idea surfaced, the formation of the EAC received the support of a number of Asian countries, but its implementation has been drawn out. In trying to discover the reason for this, the author focuses on the incongruity of China and Japan's approaches as the leading regional powers, along with the role of the United States, which is not interested in creating a structure in which its participation is not envisioned.

Summary/Abstract |
After a half-century or more of almost single-party rule by the Liberal Democratic Party, the Democratic Party came to power in Japan in September 2009. The Japanese people had great hopes for the DPJ where revival of the country was concerned, but a little over a year after the Democrats' resounding victory it was clear that they were incapable of solving a number of long-standing social and economic problems, and were committing one grievous error after another in foreign policy. The author concludes that as the electorate's disappointment and dissatisfaction with the Democratic Party's actions grows, its prospects increasingly wane.

Summary/Abstract |
Analyzing the development of the situation on the Korean Peninsula in 2010, the author of this article arrives to the conclusion that the growing tension in this region has been caused mainly by the course pursued by the Republic of Korea and the United States supporting it to resolve the nuclear and other aspects of the Korean problem by liquidating the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) as a sovereign state. In his view, the reasons for the exacerbation of the confrontation in Korea cannot be perceived outside the context of the situation and development prospects of the rather contradictory relations between the PRC and the U.S.A., which are the main sponsors and allies of the two Korean states, and rivalry between them definitely predominates over the attempts to establish partnership.
