The paper analyzes views on operational training as reflected in works on military theory; the conclusion is drawn that it is necessary to take into account the most advanced of the formerly devised interpretations of operational training in contemporary military development and training of troops (forces), with the definition of operational training, its purpose, essence and tasks specified in guiding documents, reference and methodology literature.
