This article analyzes the structure of and current situation in the Republic of Korea's National Intelligence Agency (NIA). We review the history of the NIA's establishment, along with its internal structure, the criteria for selecting personnel, issues of cooperating with the United States, and aspects of its functioning today. The agency's main shortcomings associated with its stagnation, corruption, and continuing interference in the country's internal affairs are noted.
