Challenges and Solutions to Air Transportation in Guinea: a case study on the revival of the national airline / Xu, Zhao   Journal Article
Xu, Zhao Journal Article
0 Rating(s) & 0 Review(s)
Summary/Abstract After the dissolution of the first national airline in 2002, the Guinean government attempted to set up Guinea Airlines, but it was unsuccessful. This study aims to analyze the current state of air transport in Guinea and to conduct a diagnostic analysis for the revival of the national airline. The objective is to explore the causes of the failures of various attempts to revive the national company. The findings show that air transport has a positive spillover externality to economic long-run growth and the revival of Guinea Airlines could be a major asset to boost the country’s economic growth.

0 Rating(s) & 0 Review(s)
Publication 2014.
Summary/Abstract The author analyzes the current state of affairs in the Muslim community of Kyrgyzstan and its relations with the state. Emerging and developing amid never-ending conflict, the community has inevitably become relatively radicalized (the faithful are divided into jamaats) and, at times, destructive. The author offers his own cures for the old and new problems of relations between the state and the Muslim community, the resolution of which is absolutely indispensable for their future development.

Order as a chronotope of Ottoman political writing / Topal, Alp Eren   Journal Article
Topal, Alp Eren Journal Article
0 Rating(s) & 0 Review(s)
Summary/Abstract This article proposes the concept of order as a major chronotope of Ottoman political writing which has shaped temporal projections such as decline and renewal from the seventeenth century onwards. In chronological order, I discuss the seventeenth-century debates on breakdown of social order and emergence of the sense of decline, and the eighteenth-century literature on Khaldunian concept of nomadic versus sedentary forms of habitation and spatiality of the debates over moral degeneration. The urban space of Istanbul, both material and abstract, as a political and social setting also figures prominently in these discussions and shapes Ottoman perceptions of the European city. Through a discussion of the chronotope of order I also challenge pervasive narratives of Westernisation and progress in favour of indigenous cyclical narratives of restoration and renewal.

Repackaging ayurveda in post-colonial India: revival or dilution? / Islam, Md Nazrul   Journal Article
Islam, Md Nazrul Journal Article
0 Rating(s) & 0 Review(s)
Publication 2012.
Summary/Abstract Reviving Ayurveda in post-colonial India has paradoxically been a nationalist venture, where the post-colonial state has restructured traditions, rather than reviving traditional Ayurvedic education, training and apprenticeship. After more than a half century of Indian independence, the majority of Ayurvedic practitioners perceive the impact of British colonial rule negatively, despite the fact that they followed Western methods and frameworks to revive Ayurveda. Today, the training in and research of Ayurvedic education has moved out of the traditional apprenticeship system and into the formal education system. This paper argues that the formalisation and professionalisation of Ayurveda has created an avenue for Ayurvedic graduates to practise backdoor allopathic medicine. Modern-day Ayurvedic practitioners tend to perceive their Ayurvedic training from an allopathic perspective.

Understanding the Revival of Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan since FATA’s Merger / Younus, Aisha ; Khan, Shehryar ; Hussain, Tasawar   Journal Article
Aisha Younus, Tasawar Hussain, Shehryar Khan Journal Article
0 Rating(s) & 0 Review(s)
Summary/Abstract How can we understand the resurgence of Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) in the former Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA)? Framing FATA as a Zomian space, we argue that its “friction of terrain” provided nonstate spaces for the emergence as well as the resurgence of TTP. The literature describes TTP as an outcome of global political and security compulsions, Islamabad’s regional policies, and ideological associations with the Afghan Taliban. The present study adds terrain to the discussion. Islamabad, after militarily destroying TTP, announced the FATA merger in 2018. However, TTP’s revival not only problematizes the state’s role but also affirms the continuation of Zomian character: the nonstate spaces that facilitated TTP’s ability to regroup and thrive again. James C. Scott’s Zomia framework is tested here against empirical realities with the help of both primary and secondary data sources.
