In all of history, except for the Marshall Plan, there was practically no long-term project which needs enormous courage. Let me express my gratitude for the People’s Republic of China for this courage, and especially let me appreciate China’s president for the courage which is so rare.

| Summary/Abstract |
This research note explores the transit issue that has become one of the most problematic disputes overtime between India and Bangladesh. It also analyzes its long-term implication in the bilateral relations between them. The history dates back to the pre independence period when Bangladesh and India were part of the British colony. The roads_. water and railways were then integrated in the communication system. The outlets to the sea were through Chittagong port or via the rivers of Bangladesh reaching the ports of Kolkata. India had pressed Bangladesh to provide transit facilities through the hearts of Bangladesh to connect West Bengal in the west and Tripura in the east. India claims that it will use this transit facility solely for the transport of ?eight and goods between two remotely connected parts of India. But Bangladesh has persistently denied any such agreement earing it as a threat to national security.

China's recent statement has sparked tension in the region: "We should not leave the world with the impression that China is only focused on economic development, nor should we pursue the reputation of being a peaceful power." Now, the question stands whether India's growing involvement with Vietnam or her moves in the SCS will act as a counter-move to China's activities and support in Bangladesh, Myanmar, and Pakistan?

| Summary/Abstract |
This article seeks to analyze whether the United Progressive Alliance government in India (UPA, which was in power from 2004–14) was successful in implementing its Look East Policy (LEP). It will discuss to what extent it was effective in realizing its vision of a community of nations conscious of their historical ties, cultural heritage, and connective identity in the Asian platform. This article argues that the government’s idea of a ‘shared destiny’ has formed the core of an emerging ‘identity’ in India, and has acted as the main anchor of India's approach towards the South East Asian region. The paper also examines whether the UPA government was successful in its vision of strengthening institutional cooperation, capability, and connectivity, in the region and how the implementation of the LEP has impacted on India’s economic and security interests.

| Summary/Abstract |
This article looks at the South China Sea dispute and its impact in international relations. It analyses why the Southeast Asian states are highly sovereignty sensitive, and how such sensitivity has made non-intervention the bedrock of managing their foreign policies. China has long viewed the near seas as regions of geostrategic interest, and thus the SCS is not an exception. On the one hand it brings hope and prosperity, and on the other uncertainty and threat. At the end, the article argues whether China’s assertive position regarding other countries’ sovereignty claims in the Arctic might undermine its own position in contested areas like the SCS, and suggests that China will at least have to learn how to share and bear (term coined by the author) as a member of the international community.
