Summary/Abstract |
As the UN Climate Change Conference in Paris came to a close in December 2015, foreign ministers from around the world raised their arms in triumph. Indeed, there was more to celebrate [1] in Paris than at any prior climate summit. Before the conference, over 180 countries had submitted detailed plans to curb their greenhouse gas emissions. And after two weeks of intense negotiation [2], 195 countries agreed to submit new, stronger plans every five years.

Summary/Abstract |
The 26th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP26) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, held in Glasgow, the United Kingdom from October 31 to November 13, 2021, captured attention worldwide. The event, attended by 39,000 participants and over 100 world leaders in person from all over the world, was closely followed by the international community. After nearly three weeks of negotiations, COP26 finally concluded after a one-day extension. What positive outcomes did the conference produce? What was left unfulfilled? And how did China contribute to its success? It is important for us to take a moment and have a thorough and systematic review.

Summary/Abstract |
Ever since the Chinese leader Deng Xiaoping opened up his country's economy in the late 1970s, China has managed to grow in power, wealth, and military might while still maintaining cooperative and friendly relations with most of the world. Until a few years ago, that is, when Beijing seemed to change tack, behaving in a way that alienated its neighbors and aroused suspicion abroad. In December 2009, for example, Beijing's resistance to compromise at the UN Climate Change Conference angered European countries and the United States.
