Summary/Abstract |
The structure of cooperation between Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, known as the BRICS format, has in recent times become a remarkable phenomenon in world politics. The answer to the question of BRIC's prospects depends largely on the policies of China, objectively the quintet's economic leader and growing in political influence as well on a global scale. In this work, we present an analysis of PRC aims and interests in the BRICS format. They are examined in the context of China's current and forecast place in the world, the main features of PRC domestic development, and the main motifs, directions, and forms of its international strategy.

Summary/Abstract |
The article based on documents of the Russian Military-Historical Archives describes the activity of the first Russian military attaché in Korea Colonel I.I. Strelbitsky in 1896-1903. The authors come to the conclusion that Strelbitsky's contribution to the development of Russian-Korean relations was assessed incorrectly in historiography. His activity was much more important for the cultural contacts and mutual knowledge of the two countries about themselves than for the development of military cooperation between them.

Summary/Abstract |
With the Kuomintang coming to power in Taiwan, relations between the island and the mainland entered a new phase distinguished by a qualitative intensification of economic integration, expanded contacts, and substantial improvement in the overall political atmosphere. Recognition of the Consensus of 1992 by both sides served as the foundation for further progress. The idea of concluding a peace treaty is under discussion, but the ambivalent attitude toward such an agreement among the Taiwanese (and possibly the PRC leadership) is a major stumbling block. The United States is not interested in Taiwan's independence movement, although it has no objection to selling Taipei military hardware. On the whole, the peaceful development of relations between the shores of the Taiwan Strait is distinguished by considerable stability.

Summary/Abstract |
The author believes that the turning point in the career of Chiang Kai-shek, who had no significant authority in China's political and military circles in the early 1920s, was when he became the head of "Doctor Sun Yat-sen's Delegation" which visited Moscow in the autumn of 1923. The success of the mission helped Chiang Kai-shek take the post of the Commandant of the Whampoa Military Academy and subsequently set up military units under his command.

Summary/Abstract |
The present situation in the sphere of human resources prompts the South Korean government to work out a new strategy of migration policy, which could answer challenges of the global world. The migration processes in the Republic of Korea are of a different character. The shortage of both unskilled workers and highly-skilled specialists in the leading branches of the economy becomes very acute. In this connection migration policy in South Korea is concentrated on drawing labor resources from abroad and keeping Korean specialists at home.

Summary/Abstract |
On the basis of official documents of the colonial administration of Hong Kong, the article describes the policy of the British colonialists in Hong Kong using opium as a legal source of income in the first half of the 20th century. Despite decisions of several international conferences on control over drug trafficking, beginning from the Shanghai Opium Commission whose centenary was marked in 2009, Britain widely used opium for financial support of its rule in China, and stopped it only in 1945 under U.S. pressure.
