Summary/Abstract The resurgence of the debate on standardization of labor laws via trade has brought into focus the importance of labeling programs, which are seen as a desirable avenue to remedy weak labor laws in the “South.” This study aims to quantify the impact of the Fairtrade labeling program on the welfare position of workers in the football industry. Propensity Score Matching (PSM) is used to calculate the treatment effect of the program. The study finds no treatment effect of labeling upon the welfare condition of workers. It concludes that the overall program has failed to make an impact upon the lives of workers.

Rethinking democracy in Pakistan / Waheed, Ahmed Waqas; Abbasi, Javeria Younas   Journal Article
Waheed, Ahmed Waqas Journal Article
0 Rating(s) & 0 Review(s)
Publication 2013.
Summary/Abstract To talk of the failure of democracy in Pakistan is to imply that success is possible. But what would success look like? .It must involve more than just the holding of elections. So is it possible for true democracy ever to be successful in Pakistan? Three factors make success unlikely, if not impossible; the grip on power exercised by the traditional feudal elite; the way in which the masses see their votes in economic rather than in political terms; the strength of the military's role in society and politics arising from Pakistan's geo-strategic position, which also influences the choices of outside actors.
