Summary/Abstract Performance based logistics (PBL) have been underpinning a growing number of US weapon systems programmes: indeed it has become, if anything, the default option building upon a trend that began in the early 90s illustrated by the LOGCAP programmes, which were awarded to Kollogg, Brown and Toot in the late 1990s. Based on the initial performance, the US DoD established it as the preferred solution for the procurement of support for its weapon systems in 2001.
