Maritime patrol aircraft's (MPA) role has evolved in the late 1990s to early 21st century from long range patrol ASW and ASuW (anti Surface warfare) to modern requirements and new kind of missions that have imposed a transition from submarine killer to a multi mission capable aircraft characterized by a remarkable flexibility, which depends on its mission systems, software sensors and communications. An increasing number of countries are looking to up grade their current fleet of MPA to reflect tare looking to procure next generation MPA altogether to replace their older aircraft currently in service
