| Summary/Abstract |
Combat search and rescue (CSAR) solutions have evolved significantly in the course of military operations and deployments. Among drivers of these evolutions is emphasis on force protection for personnel engaged in peace enforcement, sustainment MOUT, and related missions. CSAR's evolution forms an interesting if somewhat neglected footnote to other kinds of operations, and space limits a full recounting.

The marketplace for vehicles ancillaries is a business sector in which not only aftermarket suppliers but major global defence conglomerates such as BAE, Northrop Grumman, Lockheed Martin Cascadian, and Finmeccanica (to name but a few) are contenders in the race to capture market share, not only by providing retrofits to existing vehicle types, but also in building modularity and cross functionality in to vehicle designs and supporting customer specific builds from a common baseline chassis or model.

| Summary/Abstract |
The concept of smart defence that emerged from the NATO Brussels Summit in February 2011, developed from continuing multilateral dialog as EU nations pursue deference transformation in the face of rapidly evolving global challenges and continuing economic uncertainties. If MoDs of EU nations in and out of NATO are to adopt a flexible strategic posture for the future, one which supports national defence policy, as well as confirm to guidance of NATO's common security and defence policy (CSDP), they will need procurement reform that support new economic of scale.

| Summary/Abstract |
In 1990 NATO expanded its member's national roster from 16 to 19 nations with the inclusion of the Czech Republic, Hungary and Poland. In 2004 and 2008, respectively, the organization expended to 26 members states, and then 28 as Bulgaria, Estonia, Lithuania, Latvia, Romania, Slovenia and Slovakia and finally Albania and Croatia, joined its ranks. These new states, rototilling 13 new members from Eastern Europe and the Balkans, represents somewhat less than half of the alliance's membership. their participation has helped reshuffle the strategic policies of NATO in directions that are now considerably different from the organization's original 1949 charter, direction mandating refocused regional commitments and new global peacekeeping and security roles for its members.

Envisioning the soldier of the future as part of a larger transformation is currently taking place among the members of the NATO alliance. Faced with new threats and challenges, global infantry forces are redesigning themselves as lighter, faster and more agile formations that can be deployed rapidly and effectively, with small units asymmetrically fielding combat capabilities that would exceed those of the present by several orders of magnitude.
