Publication 2013.
Summary/Abstract Much before India achieved Independence in 1947, though not widely known, there was an attempt under the leadership of Jatin Mukherjee, M.N. Roy et al in 1915 during the First World War to attain Independence through armed insurrection in cooperation with the Germany. Although the initiative did not fructify, the efforts deserve to be recalled and given due importance in the pages of history. In fact, the incident can be considered as precursor of the later attempt by Subhash Chandra Bose in 1945 under the aegis of the Indian National Army (INA) during the Second World War with the help of Japan.
