Summary/Abstract The article focuses on the postponement of the tactical exercise off the California coast, in San Francisco Bay, California that was scheduled to commence the next day, 13 November 1933, due to death of Rear Admiral Ridley McLean, who was Commander Battleship Division 3, was fatally struck down by a heart attack. Funeral services were reportedly held the following day with all the honors due McLean's rank, including a 13-gun salute from the U.S. Ship Pennsylvania (BB-38).
