Collective intelligence: Russian diplomats' comments on president Putin's speech / Denisov, Audrey   Journal Article
Denisov, Audrey Journal Article
0 Rating(s) & 0 Review(s)
Summary/Abstract AS RUSSIA'S AMBASSADOR to China, I found it particularly interesting to hear evaluations that in some way or other concern the relations between our two countries, as well as the remarks on Russian-Chinese tandem as a structurally critical factor not only on a regional but perhaps also on a global level. It is encouraging that the level of interaction along all lines and on all levels has been highly appraised. My colleagues even said with a touch of professional envy that there must be a lot of work in my area compared to others, where for well-known reasons development has somewhat stalled, at least in multilateral ties.

Creating Arab nationalism? Russia and Greece in Ottoman Syria and Palestine (1840–1909) / Vovchenko, Denis   Journal Article
Vovchenko, Denis Journal Article
0 Rating(s) & 0 Review(s)
Publication 2013.
Summary/Abstract The article discusses Russian and Greek rivalry over the influence in the Patriarchates of Jerusalem and Antioch from the end of the Egyptian occupation to the Young Turk Revolution. While Greece ultimately aimed at including Orthodox Arabs in a Pan-Hellenic nation, Russian private and state actors were motivated by the cultural and political commitment to the defence of Orthodoxy from western inroads. Throughout this period, Russian diplomats were able to continue their traditional partnership with many Ottoman Greek prelates even after the Bulgarian schism of 1872. But when their leadership seemed to be the cause of mass defections from orthodoxy, Russian foreign policy makers from local consuls to the tsar were drawn into supporting the restoration of native Arab control. The article brings fresh archival evidence to put into context the development of some of the earliest modern Arab autonomous institutions. It also contributes to the discussion of the strength of dynastic and religious identities before 1914.

Gatilov, Gennady Journal Article
0 Rating(s) & 0 Review(s)
Publication 2014.
Summary/Abstract ON SEPTEMBER 27, 2013, the Security Council of the United Nations unanimously adopted resolution 2118 in support of the decision of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) made on the same day in The Hague to place Syrian chemical weapons under international control and dismantle them. This was the culmination of the Ministerial Week at the 68th session of the UN General Assembly in New York, an event which was expected by all, but not all believed that it would happen. All, however, eventually acknowledged that it came about largely through to the efforts of Russian diplomats who, led by Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, negotiated day after day with the U.S. partners, seeking a solution which not only would avert the threat of a military strike against Syria, but would also open the way for politically resolving the most complicated crisis in the SAR.
