Publication 2013.
Summary/Abstract An Ariane 5 rocket successfully launched the military communication satellite GSAT-7, meant for the Indian Navy at 0200 hours Indian Standard Time (IST) on August 30 from Kourou in French Guiana. This successful launch means that the Indian Navy (IN) will now have access to its own satellite for communication requirements of ships at sea, submarines and provide the much-needed bandwidth for shore based establishments. The additional bandwidth would also be used for uplinking data from surveillance platforms, such as the recently acquired Boeing P-8I Long Range Maritime Reconnaissance and anti-submarine warfare (LRMR/ASW) aircraft and UAVs.
