Elon Moreh as a symbol / Goldstein, Yossi; Hornstein, Elona   Journal Article
Goldstein, Yossi Journal Article
0 Rating(s) & 0 Review(s)
Summary/Abstract While the establishment of the Elon Moreh locality in the second half of the 1970s constitutes an important milestone in the evolution of post-1967 Jewish settlement in the biblical lands of Judea and Samaria (or the West Bank as they have been known since their 1950 Jordanian annexation), the episode has been surprisingly neglected by the professional literature. This article seeks to fill that lacuna by exploring the factors and circumstances underlying this momentous event, as well as the political and legal struggles attending its occurrence. As such, it not only offers the first comprehensive historical account of this episode but also shed important fresh light on one of the more intractable aspects of the Israeli‒Palestinian conflict.

Jewish Nation-State Law / Jabareen, Hassan ; Bishara, Suhad   Journal Article
Jabareen, Hassan Journal Article
0 Rating(s) & 0 Review(s)
Summary/Abstract This analysis explores the origins and constitutional implications of Basic Law: Israel – The Nation State of the Jewish People (hereafter the Jewish Nation-State Law), enacted by the Israeli Knesset in July 2018. It examines the antecedents of the legislation in Israeli jurisprudence and argues that most of the law's provisions are the product of precedents established by Israel's Supreme Court, specifically the court's rulings delivered post-Oslo. The authors contend that the “two states for two peoples” vision of so-called liberal Zionists paved the way for Israel's right-wing politicians to introduce this law. Their analysis holds that the law is radical in nature: far from being a mere continuation of the status quo, it confers unprecedented constitutional status on ordinary policies and destabilizes the prevailing legal distinction between the area within the Green Line and the 1967 occupied territories.

Shift Israel's: new goals in Jerusalem / Klein, Menachem   Journal Article
Klein, Menachem Journal Article
0 Rating(s) & 0 Review(s)
Publication 2011.
Summary/Abstract Since 2000, and especially since the Annapolis conference in late 2007, Israel has been busy augmenting Jewish presence in east Jerusalem. The expansion of Jewish settlements stifles Palestinian urban growth and makes the prospect of an Israeli-Palestinian accord on Jerusalem even more difficult.
