Anchor light / Walker, Chris   Journal Article
Walker, Chris Journal Article
0 Rating(s) & 0 Review(s)
Publication 2013.
Summary/Abstract Buster hated anchoring. In all his years in command of frigates no other ship's evolution had developed such capacity for cock - up. As he mounted the bridge ladder he expected the worst, and was rarely disappointed. An unconvincing report, the hint of a fumble on the focsle chippy's grubby cap at an unusually rakish angle - and the bridge steps would run red.

Summary/Abstract Fost funnies are only funny to fost staff, which is why they do them. Originally they were to more than a bit of innocent merriment at the customer's expense, but both funnies and staff, mercifully, have matured a bit over the year. The ID card at the brow with Guy the Gorilla on it, or the Sheikh of Araby on the jetty with an embarrassed haremgirl, demanding hospitality in the middle of Distex, are new old hat.

Publication 2013.
Summary/Abstract while mosses needed ten commandments to keep the Israelites in line, the navy's only ever needed one; "Be in the right place, at the right time, in the right rig". You have to get all of its mind. Moses reckoned he'd had a good day, if the team scored five or even six out of the ten. And an all embracing commandment it is too, for it applies to junior navies.

Summary/Abstract like run ashore oppos, ships internal comms systems are unreliable. If their designers lever went to sea they would soon realize why a smooth running warship needs comms in place like the tops of masts, the bottoms of bilges and every chidfy's caboose. And why microphones, loudspeakers and headsets must withstand soaking in foul weather and hosing down in fair.
