Persistence of the two Perus / Arce, Moises   Journal Article
Arce, Moises Journal Article
0 Rating(s) & 0 Review(s)
Publication 2014.
Summary/Abstract Peru is poised for a brighter future. Since Alberto Fujimori's decade-long presidency ended in 2000, politics has become more liberalized, and the press livelier and freer. At the same time, the country has embarked on an important process of decentralization, allowing newly created regional governments a greater role in public policy, thus placing constraints on executive power. The extraction of natural resources, following the economic liberalization policies of the Fujimori era, has contributed to an impressive economic expansion, aided by record-high commodity prices and the growing Chinese demand for raw materials.

Revolutionary leadership as necessary element in people’s war: Shining Path of Peru / Palmer, David Scott   Journal Article
Palmer, David Scott Journal Article
0 Rating(s) & 0 Review(s)
Summary/Abstract Though it is well understood that all internal upheaval within a polity is a consequence of agency interacting with structure, the importance of the former has perhaps become too pushed to the rear. In reality, as demonstrated by the case of Sendero Luminoso (Shining Path) in Peru, even cases which seem most determined by structural factors, in practice remain problematic, absent necessary revolutionary leadership. This leadership in turn, can make mistakes just as it guides successes.
