Asian alliances: Chinese and Japanese experiences compared / Dittmer, Lowell   Journal Article
Dittmer, Lowell Journal Article
0 Rating(s) & 0 Review(s)
Publication 2014.
Summary/Abstract In this article I view Asian alliances as a product of universal security needs and culturally constructed variables. While the alliance remains one of the fundamentals of contemporary international politics, I attempt to show through comparative analysis of the Sino-Soviet alliance and the Japan-US security alliance how subtle differences of national developmental experience can significantly affect political outcomes in East Asia.

Sino-Soviet Alliance in Konrad Adenauer’s Chancellorship, 1945–1963 / Grundy, Steven Crawford   Journal Article
Grundy, Steven Crawford Journal Article
0 Rating(s) & 0 Review(s)
Summary/Abstract On March 13, 1967, the former West German chancellor, Konrad Adenauer, received a visit from future U.S. President Richard Nixon. Adenauer was a frail old man. He was ninety-one years of age and in the autumn of his life. Nixon’s opening remarks made it clear, however, that he had not come to say goodbye to the architect of the Federal Republic of Germany (FRG), nor was this merely a social call. Instead, Nixon had travelled all the way to Bonn with the sole purpose of asking the chancellor for advice. “I attach great importance to Dr. Adenauer’s judgements,” Nixon began, “and I am delighted to have the opportunity to hear Dr. Adenauer’s thoughts on different questions and problems.”
