Operational level and maritime forces / Benbow, Tim   Article
Benbow, Tim Article
0 Rating(s) & 0 Review(s)
Summary/Abstract The ‘operational level’ of war tends to be considered primarily from the land perspective, with relatively little thought given to its relevance to the maritime environment. In this article, Tim Benbow assesses the concept of the operational level, suggesting that although sometimes misused, it does have utility. He argues that the operational level and operational art both apply to the maritime environment. He then explores the ways in which the operational level differs in this environment, highlighting in particular the role of time and distance, and the relationship between attack and defence.

World navies in review / Wertheim, Eric   Journal Article
Wertheim, Eric Journal Article
0 Rating(s) & 0 Review(s)
Publication 2014.
Summary/Abstract Maritime forces continue to play a vital role this past year in diplomatic and military events around the globe. In every corner of the world navies and coast gourds could be seen operating together, often as part of international coalitions formed to face down dictators, stand tall against pirates and criminals, and offer relief to those in distress. As many of those same countries lay claim to contested reefs, island, and waterways, however, the world was also reminded that a primary purpose of navies is not only to cooperate, but also to protect sovereign national interest. This review of international navies present a snapshot of activities and developments during the past year. It is arranged by region. With national discussed alphabetically under each subheading.
