Defence industry in Iran – between needs and real capabilities / Czulda, Robert   Journal Article
Czulda, Robert Journal Article
0 Rating(s) & 0 Review(s)
Summary/Abstract The paper’s goal is to analyses the potential of the Iranian defence industry, including both research-and-development and production capabilities. It is argued that, despite official statements about the great power and sophistication of the Iranian defence industry, in reality its capabilities are very limited and cannot meet the operational needs of the Iranian armed forces. At the same time, it is argued that many official releases, which are abundantly available in the Iranian press and often unthinkingly repeated by the Western media, do not present the real and value of military products, but are rather a tool for deception and propaganda.

Defensive dimension of Iran's military doctrine: how would they fight? / Czulda, Robert   Journal Article
Czulda, Robert Journal Article
0 Rating(s) & 0 Review(s)
Summary/Abstract In many countries, especially liberal democratic ones, military or defense doctrine is a public document made available to researchers. In the case of the Islamic Republic of Iran, due to understandable concerns about potential American and Israeli aggression, comprehensive plans for using military forces, in both defensive and offensive operations, are classified. A presentation and analysis of Iran's military doctrine in a concise document is not available. One must reconstruct the whole from many small elements.

Iran's Approach Towards Pakistan – Between Expectations and Reality / Czulda, Robert   Journal Article
Czulda, Robert Journal Article
0 Rating(s) & 0 Review(s)
Summary/Abstract This article examines Iran’s policy towards its eastern neighbour, Pakistan. It argues that, despite significant differences and geopolitical challenges, cooperation between these two states is inevitable and that it will continue, regardless of international and domestic fluctuations. Iran, both as a monarchy until 1979 and then as an Islamic Republic, has considered Pakistan an important and valuable partner. However, this cooperation is unlikely to transform into a deep, strategic partnership: the national interests and goals of both states are too contradictory. Moreover, other factors – such as international sanctions, poor security, and lack of funds – hinder the development of relations. This paper covers two periods: that of Mohammad Reza Pahlavi before 1979 and of the Islamic Republic of Iran since. Three areas of cooperation have been analysed: political, economic and security.

Polish perspective on the European defence industry / Czulda, Robert   Journal Article
Czulda, Robert Journal Article
0 Rating(s) & 0 Review(s)
Summary/Abstract It is a cliché to say that Europe, including its underfunded defence industry, faces numerous challenges and threats. Nevertheless, it is impossible not to notice or to ignore issues, such as the current economic crises, which are likely to last for a long period of time, an ageing population (resulting in increased spending on social programmes, including healthcare), and migration (which forces governments to invest more in internal security rather than on hard defence). However, there are also new challenges which will place additional pressure on European defence industry. One such factor, which cannot be underestimated, is the emerging influence of China and its defence companies. According to SIPRI, in recent years three Chinese defence producers ranked in the world’s top 10 producers. 1 This means that in the near future, European companies will have more competitors, capable of offering more favourable conditions – cheaper products and attractive credit – than their European counterparts.
