Consolidated in July 2013, the Royal Netherlands Navy's (RNNL) special operations forces (SOF) became part of the overarching NL maritime special operations forces (NLMARSOF). These naval units distinguish themselves from their army counterparts (SFR) by excelling in naval oriented mission such as maritime interdiction operations, direct action (DA), special reconnaissance (SR) and military assistance (MA)
