Summary/Abstract |
May 2019 marked 400 years of relations between Russia and China, two major powers belonging to different world civilizations. It was a long way from knowing or understanding absolutely nothing about each other, through conflicts, including armed clashes, to realizing that a peaceful dialogue based on mutual understanding and reciprocal concessions was the right choice. The first step in this direction was taken by Russia as it sent, in 1618-1619, Ivan Petlin's mission to China where it was welcomed at the diplomatic level.

Summary/Abstract |
IT IS A WELL-KNOWN historical fact that since the Rurikids there was a firm rule to include into the official title of the autocratic rulers of Russia all lands that belonged to the Muscovite State and all the territories attached to Russia, the population of which differed from the Great Russians by its national composition and religious affiliation. The Romanov dynasty, proclaimed the legal heir to the Grand Princes of Moscow, invariably observed this tradition. The crowned family was convinced that enumeration of the existing and newly acquired possessions in the official titles of the Russian monarchs spoke of Russia's might and greatness and confirmed its prestige both inside and outside the country.

Summary/Abstract |
RUSSIA has historically evolved as a multiethnic and multireligious state. Having passed through complex social experiments and spiritual quests and explorations that deeply affected the foundations of human and social life, the citizens of the Russian Federation have emerged as a single, multiethnic people, as a Russian nation. And this despite the greatest tragedy of the late 20th century - namely, the disintegration of a single country, i.e., the Soviet Union, into several post-Soviet states, including historical Russia.
