Summary/Abstract |
This article deals with the new set of agenda in the Middle East and approaches of the Modi government. The Look West Policy of India was under siege of the local political factors. India did not have diplomatic ties with Israel till 1992. But things changed. The realistic approach of foreign policy did come out from the box and became an important part. The new government of India is determined to carry forward the same approach to strengthen India's ties with Middle Eastern countries.

Summary/Abstract |
India has had both security and economic interests in the West Asian region, with energy security being a prime factor. Therefore, peace and stability in the region has been crucial to the Indian interests. However, being an emerging power globally, it is imperative that India deals with its significant partners in West Asia on its own terms. Indian foreign policy has seen a shift from ‘Link West’ policy to ‘Act West’ policy by building strong economic and security ties with most of the countries in the Middle East, and valuable defence and security cooperation with the regional actors. It is here that India’s relations with Iran assume importance.

Summary/Abstract |
I
n this thought-provoking article, the complex reasons for the faceoff
between Iran and Saudi Arabia have been analyzed. The pan-Arab
dispute over the naming of the Persian Gulf water body known
historically and internationally as the Persian Gulf to the Arabian
Gulf highlights the hostility between Shia Iran and the predominantly
Sunni Salafi Saudi Arabia. The only other Salafi country in the Middle
East, though tiny, blessed with an abundance of hydrocarbons, is Qatar
and which mediates between the two archrivals. The rivalry between
the two giant oil-producing neighbouring nations is highly exacerbated
and volatile. Both support opposing terror groups in rival countries
and in the ongoing power struggle in the Middle East between ShiaSunni sectarian conflicts.
