| Summary/Abstract |
The Land Boundary Agreement (LBA), finalized during the recent visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Bangladesh in June this year, justifiably received top billing in the media. So did the Teesta water sharing agreement which could not be signed, thanks to domestic politics in India. The LBA has been implemented and enclaves, adverse possessions and demarcation of the land boundary implemented on August 1, 2015 in a time-bound manner. A lingering ghost of the post-colonial era has finally been exorcised, freeing Bangladesh-India relations from the shackles of the past. The Teesta water sharing agreement, however, is enmeshed in political horse trading, as well as disagreement between the Central government and the West Bengal State government on the water sharing formula.

| Summary/Abstract |
India’s foreign policy started attracting renewed global attention since the beginning of the economic reform in 1991. With high rates of economic growth during the last two decades-almost 7.5 per cent on the average, through down to sub 5 per cent in last two years-India’s global trade today contributes over 50 per cent of its GDP, as compared about 3 per cent before. In PPP terms, India is the world’s third largest economy after the USA and China. India’s growing profile on the international stage has naturally led to question about the role India seeks to play, or should play, regionally and internationally. Clearly, the world expects India to play a larger role, commensurate with its size and growing power. Consequently, the question has arisen about India’s own perception and assessment of its international role, and the nature of its global engagement. This process has led to a changing consensus and nuancing of India’s foreign policy thinking and objectives.

| Summary/Abstract |
Bangladesh’s emergence, as a new nation at the height of the Cold War, in 1971, re-drew political borders in the Indian subcontinent. It was one of the most significant geopolitical events of the latter half of the 20th century. India’s ties with Bangladesh have taken great strides in the last decade in comparison to the first 40 years, expanding and strengthening across a wide template of sectors. This article examines and analyses the drivers that have strengthened bilateral ties and also unresolved issues that remain on the menu as well as developments that have the potential to undermine these growing ties.
